Learning for Teaching Assistants

LLF TSA is pleased to share with you the  event information for our latest range of Professional Learning programmes for Teaching Assistants which will be taking place during 2017-18 and beyond. Most of these Professional Learning programmes and events can be requested on a bespoke basis for your school, academy, college or organisation.

Applications can be made online or by e-mail/facsimile after completing the relevant event application form or by contacting Catherine Thompson (for all programmes and events) in the TSA Office on 01724 842960 or Grace Windle (for all programmes and events delivered by NHS Children's Therapy Services) via the TSA Office. Encouraging Learning Skills

Encouraging Learning SkillsSpring 2018 or on request. Communication skills are essential for learning across the whole school curriculum. Encouraging Learning Skills is a programme of 3 modules for Teaching Assistants who want to encourage the development of key communication skills -  listening, language and speech - in all children as part of everyday learning activities. This programme is aimed at providing an overview of good practice within the classroom to help children to develop these essential communication skills. ELKLAN® Speech & Language Support Programme (5-11)

ELKLAN® Speech & Language Support Programme (5-11)Spring 2018. ELKLAN® have developed a range of successful, accredited courses for practitioners supporting learners with speech, language and communication needs.  These are highly practical training events designed to equip practitioners with approaches and strategies to maximise speech, language and communication skills of ALL learners; in particular those with speech, language and communication needs and/or English as an Additional Language. Elklan Communication Support Programme for Children with ASD

ELKLAN® Communication Support for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)Summer 2018 only. The programme consists of five fortnightly teaching sessions, lasting four hours, run by ELKLAN® trained specialist tutors. Makaton Introduction Workshop

Makaton® Introduction Workshop - Spring/Summer 2018 or on request. This 1.5 hour workshop will provide delegates with a general insight into what Makaton® is and who uses it, with the added opportunity to learn some targeted signs and symbols useful to your setting. Makaton Beginners' Workshop

Makaton® Beginners’ WorkshopSummer 2018 or on request. Makaton® uses signs and symbols to help people communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech in spoken word order. The Beginners' Workshop provides a practical introduction to the Makaton® Language Programme. Sessions include discussing commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton® in everyday situations at home or work. Participants must have an interest in early communication skills. Makaton Foundation Workshop

Makaton® Foundation WorkshopSummer 2018 or on request. The Makaton® Foundation Workshop of 4 x 2.5 hour twilight sessions will build on learning from the introductory workshop revealing how Makaton® can develop the communication skills of its users. Participants will develop signing skills in using around 150 everyday signs in speaking situations for supporting understanding and expression. Makaton Refresher Workshop

Makaton® Refresher Workshop - Summer 2018 or on request. This 1.5 hour Refresher workshop will provide delegates who have already completed the Beginners or the Foundation Workshop with a general review of what Makaton® is and who uses it, with the added opportunity to revise some signs and symbols. Delivered in an enjoyable and interactive style, the workshop provides opportunities to discuss ideas on how to develop use of Makaton® within your setting. Outstanding Teaching Assistant Programme (OTAP)

The Outstanding Teaching Assistant Programme (OTAP) is delivered in licensed association with OLEVI and The Humber Teaching School. Designed and facilitated by experienced school leaders and teachers, OLEVI’s Outstanding Teaching Assistant Programme gives good (and outstanding) teaching assistants a set of high level skills and strategies that enable them to become consistently and sustainably outstanding.  To reserve places on the next programme, please apply online or send a completed application form by e-mail to: LLFevents@northlincs.gov.uk

Promoting & Developing Positive Pupil Behaviour Programme

Promotiong & Developing Positive Pupil Behaviour delivered in association with The Humber Teaching School, has been designed by experienced and successful primary maths specialists. This highly effective programme is designed to give maths subject leaders and teachers the capacity and capability to implement the new maths curriculum across the primary phase leading towards mastery based learning and deep thinking. Supporting Children with Speech & Language Needs 

Supporting Children with Speech & Language Needs – Spring 2018 only. A choice of two x 1 day events for Teaching Assistants working in North Lincolnshire with identified children who have speech and language learning difficulties. Each event aims to help TAs to improve the quality of children’s individual learning within the classroom.
